MassArt Film Festival MAFF: BEHIND THE SUN Massachusetts College of Art and Design

mass art and design

The academic definition of “full-time enrollment” varies from the billing and financial aid policies as stated above. Full-time students take at least 12 credits per semester; part-time students take fewer than 12 credits per semester. Please see the information on Course Load/Credits in the Academic Policies section of the website for more information. The CD+M project creates a new front door for the College and provides a transparent and luminous new identity for the institution on the Avenue of the Arts. A clear and memorable entry sequence for students, faculty and visitors orients users to major campus spaces like the Pozen Center and Bakalar and Paine Galleries.

MassArt Film Festival (MAFF): BEHIND THE SUN

MAAM builds meaningful relationships with individuals and institutions in order to spark positive change in our community. The renovation of and transformation to MAAM was the result of the largest private fundraising effort in the college’s history and we are grateful to the generous individuals and organizations who shared our belief that contemporary art should be experienced without boundaries or barriers. Our public grand opening on February 22, 2020 drew lines around the block, but thirteen days later, MAAM closed due to COVID-19.

FINANCIAL AID WITHDRAWAL & REDUCTION POLICY

The CD+M project reinforces campus-wide internal connections as well as external connections with outside professional collaborators, adjacent institutions such as the colleges of the Fenway, the Isabella Gardner Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts. To those of you who followed us on our digital journey—thank you for inviting us into your homes. Despite challenges and hardships we enjoyed live virtual drawing sessions with community members across the globe; seeing what your children created at your kitchen tables during our Saturday morning Art & Stories program; and bringing art to virtual classrooms when teachers and students needed inspiration the most. As we ease back into in-person gatherings, we will build on our recent experiences and apply lessons we’ve learned, keeping some of our online programs and refining new ones.MAAM is always evolving, always welcoming, always free. Massachusetts College of Art and Design, branded as MassArt, is a public college of visual and applied art in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 1873, it is one of the nation's oldest art schools, the only publicly funded independent art school in the United States, and was the first art college in the United States to grant an artistic degree.

The Joy of MassArt

We do this through architecture, landscape design, furniture design, engineering, planning, research, construction, film, and community engagement. The campus of Massachusetts College of Art and Design is located on the lands of indigenous tribes, such as the Wampanoag and Massachusett. We make this land acknowledgment to pay respect to these communities – past, present, and future – and recognize the painful history of erasure and ongoing violence toward indigenous people in North America and across the world. We acknowledge this part of our history to affirm our values to pursue a more just, compassionate, and equitable learning environment. We make groundbreaking contemporary art accessible to our community and the world—free of charge. We invite everyone to experience contemporary art, exchange ideas, and be part of the MAAM community.

In the 1860s, civic and business leaders whose families had made fortunes in the China Trade, textile manufacture, railroads, and retailing, sought to influence the long-term development of Massachusetts. To stimulate learning in technology and fine art, they persuaded the state legislature to found several institutions, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1860) and the Museum of Fine Arts (1870). MassArt was created to satisfy two imperatives - a business demand for industrial drawing skills, and the belief of educators that training in drawing could promulgate both manual and intellectual skills, and yield even spiritual benefits.

Massachusetts College of Art and Design provides state-of-the art facilities and studios housed in nine buildings along Huntington Avenue in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston, close by the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The college also offers certificate programs in Communication Design, Fashion Design, Furniture Design, and Industrial Design. The Fall 2019 undergraduate enrollment was 1780, graduate enrollment was 128 and continuing education enrollment was 187. MassArt is a Massachusetts state university and receives support from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Massachusetts College of Art and Design holds accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The college offers twenty-two areas of concentration in fine arts, design and art education, and awards one undergraduate degree, the Bachelor of Fine Arts, and graduate degrees including the Master of Fine Arts, the Master of Art in Teaching, Master of Design Innovation, and the Master of Architecture.

mass art and design

Massachusetts College of Art and Design is a public, independent institution that prepares artists, designers, and educators from diverse backgrounds to shape communities, economies, and cultures for the common good. In addition, artworks in all media are informally displayed throughout the campus, in hallways, stairwells, ramps, outdoor spaces, and classrooms. MassArt is headquartered at 621 Huntington Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts, and occupies a trapezoidal block of old and new buildings it has acquired over the last two decades. Most of its academic buildings were the former campus of Boston State College, acquired after BSC was merged with the University of Massachusetts-Boston.

Further along "The Avenue of the Arts" are Northeastern University, the Boston University Theatre, Boston Symphony Hall, Horticultural Hall, and the New England Conservatory of Music. During its first decade, the state rented space for the school in several locations including Boston's Pemberton Square, School Street, and the Deacon House mansion on Washington Street. In 1886, the state built the school's first building at the corner of Exeter and Newbury Streets, and then in 1929 moved the school to its second built campus at Longwood and Brookline Avenues. In 1983, MassArt was relocated to the former campus of Boston State College at the corner of Longwood and Huntington Avenues, after the latter school's merger with the University of Massachusetts Boston. Boston has designated Huntington Avenue as the "Avenue of the Arts", in recognition of the location of MassArt, the Museum of Fine Arts, School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts, Boston Symphony Hall, and other educational and cultural institutions along this thoroughfare.

As crafted by its two founders, English art educator Walter Smith and Boston Brahmin arts impresario Charles Callahan Perkins, the new institution would produce drawing teachers required in schools throughout the Commonwealth, while at the same time educating professional artists, designers, architects, and scientists. The goal would be to educate men and women in the creative process, not merely train them to draw. The Colleges of the Fenway consortium gives MassArt students additional shared access to facilities of five other nearby schools, including their library, athletics, and theatrical resources. MassArt students (with ID) also have free admission to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum; Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; and the Danforth Museum of Art; the ISGM is across the street, and the MFA is a short walking distance from campus.

The new Design and Media Center building serves as the formal main portal into the academic campus, featuring a large, spacious entry lobby that can accommodate very large temporary art installations and exhibits. Contemporary media laboratories, classrooms, meeting spaces, project and installation spaces, and galleries are also located here. There is a permanent graphic timeline history of MassArt and its predecessor schools alongside a long ramp at the side of the entry lobby, highlighting and illustrating the accomplishments of faculty, staff, and students over the years. The graphic design faculty inspires and advocates that students not only value structure, surface, and form, but also engagements and interactions of design with clients, audiences, and the culture at large.

Collective Circuit

human design channels

By exploring their fears and embracing their talents, individuals with this channel can embark on a journey of self-discovery and self-empowerment. If the Sacral isn’t defined, and there isn’t a motor center connected to the throat, then you have yourself a Projector. Projectors have an absorbing and focused aura, which enables them to deeply know their environments as well as the people within those environments.

It’s also beneficial to experiment with different forms of emotional expression, such as art, writing, or music, and discover what feels the most authentic and satisfying. Through such experimentation, individuals can further understand and refine their unique way of expressing and sharing their emotions. In personal relationships, the Channel brings unique dynamics. Those with this channel often bring depth, creativity, and a zest for learning to their relationships.

Gate 56 – Stimulation / Wanderer

Integration needs time for inner reflection and creating new paradigms as new experiences are “integrated” into the archetype of being human. And, of course, in addition to time, Integration also needs to respond. When we are not in our bodily form, we exist as formless, undifferentiated unity. It is in human form that we experience the illusion of being separate and define ourselves by our uniqueness. We perceive ourselves to be separate human beings– not a unified whole. Through perceiving ourselves as separate, we are separate not only from each other, but from God.

The Collective Human Design Circuit

We seek enlightenment, and it is through the Integration circuitry that we are simultaneously separated and awakened to unity. Note that the numbers are out of sequence, but if you look at a Human Design body graph you will see that it makes sense, with channels listed in the order gates appear. Individual channels represent a specific theme or fundamental and essential aspect of experiencing life as a human being, within the framework of Human Design. Individual channels represent a specific theme or fundamental aspect of experiencing life as a human being. Those with gate 44 defined are excellent judges of character, instinctively able to pick up on positive and negative traits. An inherent understanding that people tend to repeat habitual patterns of behaviour, and change is required to achieve a different result.

Human Design 21-45 Channel of Money - A Design of a Materialist

The high expression is improving things for the benefit of everyone. By understanding the role of the planets in a Bodygraph, one can gain insights into the various facets of an individual’s personality, life themes, and potential challenges and opportunities. The planetary positions add depth and complexity to the interpretation of the chart, providing a more comprehensive understanding of the individual’s energetic makeup. We’ll talk about the components of a human design chart, an essential instrument for decoding your distinct blueprint.

human design channels

Human Design 34-57 Channel of Power - A Design of an Archetype

20% of the population are Projectors and they’re here to GUIDE, mainly the Generators, in how to best use their abundant energy. When you’re manifesting in peace, you will know that you’re living in alignment with your Design because PEACE is your Signature. When you’re ANGRY, because you didn’t follow your Strategy, then that is a signpost that you’re not living in alignment with your Design. Channel 7-31 is about the highest expression of leadership in democracy. It ensures that everyone has enough food and education, is honored and treated equally and has a say in the process. It is leadership rooted in repeated experience and proven mastery that shows someone is capable.

And they are more likely to get into conflict with someone who has a lot of individual circuitry but not tribal circuits because their values will be very different. When you understand the your human design circuitry, you will have a “big picture” perspective on what your energy is about. Those “categories” of channels influence the specific energy that you express energy and how that energy flows through the bodygraph.

Living in Alignment with the 12-22 Channel

The channel of transformation is a projected channel that strives for recognition. Often people with this channel can become workaholics who think that by working hard they can fulfil their business dreams. The challenge is finding the energy for the fulfilment, as the only energy in this channel is the Root, and the Throat is very far away. As you can imagine, the nature of sex and war can be tricky if you don’t wait for emotional clarity.

Understanding the Gates and Channels in Human Design

Embracing these qualities can help individuals with the Channel maintain a healthy balance and avoid emotional burnout. However, their intense emotional engagement can also pose challenges. They might struggle with emotional boundaries and have a tendency to become overly invested in their relationships. This could lead to a tendency to prioritize others’ needs over their own, which could potentially lead to burnout or resentment. The 42nd Gate, also known as the Gate of Completion, is found in the Sacral Center.

People with this energy also have an unusually large aura and stand out energetically. This is important because, ultimately, this energy is vital for the sustainability of mankind. The 15/5 is the only channel that is contained within all life forms.

Additionally, online forums, workshops, and certified Human Design professionals can offer personalized guidance and insights. Engaging with these resources can enhance your knowledge and application of Human Design principles in your daily life. In Human Design, authority and strategy are crucial components that guide you in making decisions that are in alignment with your true self. Understanding your authority and following your strategy can lead to a more harmonious and fulfilling life.

It’s also very sensitive to its own position, wanting to be needed (to give support) and needing to be wanted (to be supported). When we look at the channel from this perspective and remember that it is a projected channel we see that for the waiting to be invited is the critical first step. Their emotional response, over time, to being invited is critical to their happiness. It's simply the fact that everyone's experience of an event is different so there are many interpretations – many pasts, and thus many ideas. It is the mutation of direction and it can be extremely successful at the material level, the nature of the 14th gate, possession in great measure.

There will be some Individuals who are just plain different, and it’s all perfect. It only becomes a problem when they try to be someone they are not. That means that even though these people are very, very powerful in a sustainable way, they cannot truly live out their powerful destiny unless they respond. If they are initiating with power and charisma, they will get into big trouble and no one will follow them.

If that is the case we have a life force flowing through that Channel and the connected Centers get Defined. Channel themes in Human Design are the specific energies or lessons that a Channel brings to your life. Your Channels aren't just energy highways; they're your guides, illuminating your strengths and highlighting areas of growth. They point to the gifts you bring to the world and the challenges that foster your personal evolution.

The creativity of this channel isn’t creativity for others, rather this is where creative strategies are developed specifically for one’s own survival. It is the channel in which we creatively modify and enhance our behavioral patterns to survive. Remember that the direction we move in mutatively is conditioned by the 2nd gate, that is the opposite of the 1st gate in the zodiac, and it’s the opposite of the 1st gate in the design.

Fractal Art: A 101 Design Intro

fractial design

Available in either chalk white or charcoal black, can the North XL land Fractal another notch on our Best PC cases list? We’ll have to test it to find out, but first, let’s take a look at its specs. In other words, it makes use of the fact that many experiments in full factorial design are often redundant, giving little or no new information about the system. In mathematics, a fractal is a geometric shape containing detailed structure at arbitrarily small scales, usually having a fractal dimension strictly exceeding the topological dimension. Fractal patterns have been modeled extensively, albeit within a range of scales rather than infinitely, owing to the practical limits of physical time and space. Models may simulate theoretical fractals or natural phenomena with fractal features.

Plenty of room for massive builds

For example, I’d love to see a brass front panel on this case to compliment the accents. The Core i K is set at a fixed 4.7GHz clock at 1.3v on all performance cores to ensure consistent power consumption across test scenarios. Letting the GPU run at 75% fan speed enables it to maintain its power target while sticking to one set reasonable fan speed, so that the temperature is the only variable.

Need technical support?

Use of this style as an interior design element for wall hangings and more. Sound-dampened steel panels with an elegant push-to-lock latching mechanism encase an entirely redesigned interior with unprecedented component support and storage flexibility. Six 3.5”/2.5” drives and two 2.5” drives can be installed with precision placement in countless configurations throughout the case. North reimagines the gaming PC, introducing natural materials and bespoke details to make gaming a stylish addition to your living space. Leveraging design to give you a better experience, its airflow functionality and intuitive layout make building and gaming both smooth and enjoyable.

Specifications of the Fractal Design North XL

An open ATX layout with intelligent space utilization creates an unrestricted airflow path from the mesh front intakes directly through key components to exhaust, ensuring heat is never an issue. The Meshify C has a remarkably compact footprint with the high-end component support of a larger tower, and with seven fan mounts and multi-radiator liquid cooling capability, it has the cooling capacity to match. The resolution classification system described is only used for regular designs. Regular designs have run size that equal a power of two, and only full aliasing is present. They may have a geometric shape – or contain many shapes therein – or have irregular curves and shapes without symmetry. Within larger fractals, you can almost zoom in and find even smaller pieces of art.

Features of the Fractal Design North XL

And you can install two more 2.5-inch or two 3.5-inch drives in trays housed under the PSU shroud. Power supply space is ample, at up to 11.4 inches, although that space lessens as you add drive trays and / or a front radiator. The Define 7 is the latest pinnacle of the renowned Define series, setting a new standard for what you should expect from a mid-tower case when it comes to modularity, flexibility and ease of use. Designed from the ground up, the Define R6 goes beyond iteration with a profound stride of innovation – a sizeable step forward from preceding models of the world-renowned Define Series. C. Escher, such as Circle Limit III, contain shapes repeated to infinity that become smaller and smaller as they get near to the edges, in a pattern that would always look the same if zoomed in.

Fractals can be the basis for beautiful background patterns or single art elements for design projects. One reason for the popularity of this design element might be research that shows fractal patterns are visually pleasing and even stress-reducing. For example, a 25 − 2 design is 1/4 of a two-level, five-factor factorial design. Rather than the 32 runs that would be required for the full 25 factorial experiment, this experiment requires only eight runs. By definition, a fractal element is a geometric pattern that is repeated with smaller and/or larger scales to create irregular shapes and patterns.

Extensive water cooling support

It’s a strange time for PC cases, especially if, like me, you’re not a big fan of so-called “fishbowl” chassis with glass on as many sides as possible. Sure, on the better models, airflow has improved to the point where, with some smartly placed fans, you don’t usually have to worry about cooking your high-end components. Now Fractal Design is back with the North XL, aimed at beefier builds, with E-ATX motherboard support, and room for larger coolers and GPUs. The latter is particularly welcome because the Colorful RTX 4090 Vulcan OC just barely fit when we used the North to update our How to Build a PC article. Fractal was also able to keep the price of the North XL pretty reasonable. At $180, it’s not exactly budget, but it’s surprisingly affordable given its internal space and stunning external design.

fractial design

Fractal Design wins Red Dot Award

Once again, I was blown away by the thermal performance of the Fractal Design North XL. Despite its wood-slatted front panel, plenty of air is able to flow into the chassis, thanks to the three 140mm Aspect 14 PWM fans. I’m tempted to buy some of these spinners to throw into my personal build.

fractial design

The principal fraction is the set of treatment combinations for which the generators evaluate to + under the treatment combination algebra. However, in some situations, experimenters may take it upon themselves to generate their own fractional design. The design of fractional factorial experiments must be deliberate, as certain effects are confounded and cannot be separated from others. Terra is a PC case designed and engineered to reshape the small form factor gaming experience. Inspired by the homes of modern gamers, Terra incorporates boutique design features such as thick panels cut from anodized aluminum, CNC-milled details and FSC-certified solid walnut.

Art elements rooted in math and algorithms might seem like a futuristic idea, but it’s a growing and popular concept.

Modern fractal art is created with an algorithm and calculations that create a result that might be a still image, animation, or other type of moving media. Most fractal art elements are abstract elements that have an obviously digitally-created look and style. While the Fractal Design North XLsports a familiar look, I’m glad that the company brought a larger version to the market. Despite the thumbscrews and still-not-quiet acoustics, the unique look and attention to detail outweigh those fairly minor issues, especially with its sub-$200 MSRP. Heck no, but for $180, the price isn’t outlandish for a case of this size, especially when you consider the fact it comes with three 140mm PWM fans and the wood accents as standard. If you want wood panels on competing Corsair cases, you’ll have to spend $70 or more, with the recently launched dual-chamber 6500 case line selling for $199 with no wood and no included fans.

Many of these patterns and shapes mimic things that might exist in nature, such as the nautilus (nature) as it pertains to the Fibonacci sequence (mathematical). This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks. There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data. Because we’re reviewing the tempered glass model, our North XL did not include the side bracket for additional cooling. Instead, Fractal sent over their Flex 2 vertical GPU riser kit (an $80 accessory that’s sold separately). Fractal Design didn’t re-invent the mid-century modern wheel with its North XL.

Ohios HB 68 is a tale of political maneuvering, veto battles, and transgender rights: Leslie Kouba

ohio house bill 68 vote

“The sad truth is that the plaintiffs will also suffer immediate, very palpable harms,” she said in court Friday. “Sadly, HB 68 and other bills targeting trans and non-conforming youth take this peace, comfort and joy up the chimney like the Grinch stealing the Christmas tree,” Bates said. Evangelical Lutheran deacon Nick Bates and father of a 13-year-old nonbinary child said bills like HB 68 force trans children and adults back into hiding.

Active Ohio Bills (Introduced, Engrossed, Enrolled, Passed)

Boards of elections have until eight days after the election to determine what provisional ballots can be counted. Right now, voters can use alternative forms of identification at the polls, such as utility bills or bank statements. “One judge from one county does not have more power than the governor’s veto pen,” Yost said in a statement. DeWine also proposed reporting and data collection on those who receive care to better monitor quality of care, as well as implementing restrictions on "pop-up clinics" that serve the transgender community. "None of [the families] that I talked to talked about surgery," said DeWine in a Dec. 29 statement. "That's not where they were going in the discussion. And I think that's, frankly, a fallacy that's out there that, you know, this goes right to surgery. It just doesn't. All the children's hospitals say that we don't do surgeries."

Votes: OH HB68 2023-2024 135th General Assembly

If a trans girl wants to play on a team with cisgender girls in Ohio, she must go through hormone treatments for at least one year or show no physical or  physiological advantages, according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association. There were only six transgender high school female student athletes in Ohio, the Capital Journal previously reported in the spring. The Ohio Senate passed House Bill 68 in a 24-8 vote Wednesday afternoon and the Ohio House concurred with the Senate amendments in a vote Wednesday night. DeWine said previously that even if the Legislature would choose to override the veto, his administration will continue to pursue the rules and that he is working with his legal team to ensure that his administration can implement them. When asked if he had thoughts on the sports restrictions in the bill, DeWine said he "focused on the part of the bill that I thought affected the most people and the most children by far," referring to the gender-affirming care portion of the bill.

OH HB68 2023-2024 135th General Assembly

The Ohio Senate has voted to override Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto against Ohio House Bill 68 in a 23-9 vote. This bill would ban transgender minors from receiving gender-affirming medical care and prevent transgender girls from taking part in girls' and women's sports. The Ohio House has voted to override Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto against Ohio House Bill 68 in a vote. The legislation in question blocks trans minors from access to gender-affirming care and from participating in girls’ athletics. HB 68 also bars physicians from prescribing hormones and puberty blockers to minors and creates penalties for those who do.

Most Monitored Ohio Bills

She knows many transgender kids who are happier when they receive gender affirmation or care. “HB 68 will cause people to leave Ohio and no one should be forced from their home for any reason, but especially not because of extreme laws undermining their freedom and safety,” Adkison said. LGBTQ+ advocates who oppose HB 68 had a press conference Wednesday morning to speak out against HB 68 — arguing families shouldn’t have to decide whether it’s safe to stay in Ohio.

But ACLU of Ohio Legal Director Freda Levenson argued Friday that without immediate enjoinment of the soon-to-be law, transition treatments will pause statewide—including for the two girls in the suit, whose identities have been concealed. Twenty-three states have passed similar laws in regards to transgender athletes since 2020, according to ESPN. DeWine also proposed reporting and data collection on those who receive care, as well as restrictions on "pop-up clinics" that serve the transgender community. "None of [the families] that I talked to talked about surgery," said DeWine on Friday. Legislators need 60% of the vote in both houses to override the governor’s veto. At least 21 states have implemented restrictions on trans medical care. Curbside voting is prohibited, unless someone has a disability and is unable to enter their polling place.

Gov. Mike DeWine vetoed HB 68, but lawmakers voted to override his veto. HB 68 prevents transgender youth from starting hormone therapy and puberty blockers. The bill has a grandfather clause that allows doctors to continue treatment on patients that have already started. The bill passed by both chambers along party lines last year bans gender-affirming surgeries, as well as hormone therapies, and restricted mental health care for transgender individuals under 18. It also blocks transgender student athletes from playing girls' and women's sports.

Legislation Text

For a transgender male to participate in sports, he currently must demonstrate that his muscle mass developed as a result of testosterone treatment and does not exceed muscle mass typical of adolescent genetic males. House Bill 6 — which prevents trans athletes from participating in Ohio women’s sports — was rolled into HB 68 back in June. The would prevent men and boys from playing on women’s sports teams, but everyone would still be able to play on co-ed teams.

The changes would give those voters four days after the election to provide that information to election officials, instead of seven days. A law banning gender-affirming care for minors in Arkansas was ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge and similar laws have been blocked in Georgia, Indiana, Idaho, Texas and Montana while lawsuits are considered. A grandfather clause allows transgender people already receiving care to continue doing so.

“In one medical situation, maybe you'll get steroids, in a different situation it may not be okay. More broadly, the ACLU of Ohio is arguing that HB 68 goes against the Ohio Constitution by breaking a single-subject rule for legislation and discriminating against trans minors, among other claims. Last June, two individual proposals become one when the Ohio House folded House Bill 6, the single-sex athletics requirement, into HB 68.

The drop box would be available at all hours from the first day of absentee voting to the close of polls on Election Day. These rules, unlike the executive order, are not in effect immediately. However, both the proposed rules and executive order are subject to change even though the executive order is effective — due to an emergency order.

In those cases, voters could cast ballots in their car or at the door of their polling location. The bill, first unveiled by Senate Republicans last week, cleared the House and Senate amid the Legislature's busy lame-duck session. Proponents say the bill would restore trust in elections, but critics contend it's a solution in search of a problem that would ultimately disenfranchise voters. Yost argues in his 36-page motion that Holbrook’s injunction is illegal since it applies to the whole state, not just the two plaintiffs. But Clark argued the bill, in its entirety, addresses trans youth issues. Clark said the court proceedings should play out normally so the state can make its full case for why the new law is necessary.

The departments filed proposed administrative rules Friday that would ensure both transgender children and adults are not receiving treatment from what he called “fly-by-night” clinics or providers outside of proper healthcare systems. Physicians who provide this gender-affirming care for trans youth would be "subject to discipline by the applicable professional licensing board" under this legislation. The bill includes exceptions for this kind of care for non-transgender youth. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost filed an emergency motion with the Ohio Supreme Court Monday in an attempt to stop a temporary restraining order against Ohio’s gender-affirming care ban for trans youth. One to ban gender-affirming healthcare for minors and another one to ban transgender women from playing on women’s sport teams. As part of their care plan, transgender individuals also must provide “sufficient informed consent” for gender-affirming care after comprehensive and lengthy mental health counseling, under the rules.

“The important part is protecting children and making sure parents know what’s going on,” he said. Gender-affirming care is supported by every major medical organization in the United States. Children’s hospitals across Ohio, the Ohio Children’s Hospital Association and the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians all oppose HB 68. “We await a final bill to review before offering formal comment,” DeWine’s press secretary Dan Tierney said in an email Wednesday afternoon. Transgender youth are more likely to experience anxiety, depressed mood and suicidal ideation and suicide attempts due to discrimination and gender dysphoria, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Twenty-two other states have passed a law that blocks gender-affirming care, according to the Human Rights Campaign. Following his veto of House Bill 68, DeWine directed several agencies to develop administrative rules. He said some of the rules and protections he is putting in place go well beyond what is in HB 68. "I truly believe that we can address a number of goals in House Bill 68 by administrative rules that will have likely a better chance of surviving judicial review and being adopted," DeWine said.

design patterns elements of reusable

People often use the Factory Method as the standard way to create objects. Builder Patterns separate the construction of a complex object from its representation so that the same construction process can create different representations. For this, it is helpful to define a taxonomy for organizing the design system and pattern library.

BeeGreen Reusable Shopping Bag

Think of it as a toolbox that can solve problems and complete tasks. If all attempts to design within the boundaries of the pattern library do not achieve project goals, intuition may lead to the search for a new tool—or perhaps a change to the existing pattern. When working within a design system, think about how the problem being solved will impact the entire product development cycle. In many cases, there will not be, and should not be, much impact because the pattern library has already been validated.

How We Chose The Best Reusable Grocery Bags

The product manager or product owner working with a designer will provide requirements for new features which align with business goals. When deciding to break or create a new design pattern, remember the theory of complex systems, and ensure the solution is a shared decision. They use inheritance to compose interfaces and define ways to compose objects to obtain new functionality. Delegation is a way of making composition as powerful for reuse as inheritance. Delegation is analogous to subclasses deferring requests to parent classes.

Design patterns in architectures based on use cases

Use the Prototype Pattern when a system should be independent of how its products are created, composed, and represented. One thing expert designers know not to do is solve every problem from first principle. Rather, they reuse solutions that have worked for them in the past. Knowing that other industries and design disciplines have used similar methods of streamlining workflows for many years provides product designers with an excellent point of reference for best practices.

Common themes in design patterns

When looking at competitor magazines, it is easy to see how the design language of one compares to the other. Darcie is a design leader with a passion for user-centered methods, business strategy, and intuitive user experiences. The prototype pattern is used to instantiate a new object by copying all of the properties of an existing object, creating an independent clone. This practise is particularly useful when the construction of a new object is inefficient. The memento pattern is used to capture the current state of an object and store it in such a manner that it can be restored at a later time without breaking the rules of encapsulation. The flyweight pattern is used to reduce the memory and resource usage for complex models containing many hundreds, thousands or hundreds of thousands of similar objects.

To avoid miscellaneous bags strewn about the hallway or backseat of your car, BagPodz sells sets of five, eight and 10 reusable bags that fit into a compact case. Behavioral Patterns describe patterns of objects/classes and the patterns communication between them. Prototype Patterns specify the kinds of objects to create using an instance, which then can create new objects by copying the prototype.

The Public Goods Wide Mesh Tote stands out because it’s stylish, reasonably priced and biodegradable. Like all mesh bags, the cotton stretches to maximize space, but you should be mindful of putting small or slim contents in the bag. While it’s great for carrying larger produce, for example, vegetables like green onion and asparagus may stick out. This L.L. Bean bag has a large capacity that you can confidently pack to the brim, thanks to its high-quality materials and long-lasting construction.

Acquaintance is a weaker relationship than aggregation and suggests much looser coupling between objects, which can often be desirable for maximum maintainability in designs. They warn that the implementation of a subclass can become so bound up with the implementation of its parent class that any change in the parent's implementation will force the subclass to change. Furthermore, they claim that a way to avoid this is to inherit only from abstract classes—but then, they point out that there is minimal code reuse. Leaks and stains can happen on grocery runs, so you may want to check the cleaning instructions before buying a reusable bag. Most materials are machine-washable, sometimes in cold water only. If you anticipate lugging a heavy bag around a lot, you want comfortable handles that can withstand the weight.

The authors also discuss so-called parameterized types, which are also known as generics (Ada, Eiffel, Java, C#, VB.NET, and Delphi) or templates (C++). These allow any type to be defined without specifying all the other types it uses—the unspecified types are supplied as 'parameters' at the point of use. The book started at a birds-of-a-feather session at the 1990 OOPSLA meeting, "Towards an Architecture Handbook", where Erich Gamma and Richard Helm met and discovered their common interest. They were later joined by Ralph Johnson and John Vlissides.[6] The book was originally published on 21 October 1994, with a 1995 copyright, and was made available to the public at the 1994 OOPSLA meeting.

The clients can access and use individual objects and compositions in the same manner. The chain of responsibility pattern is a design pattern that defines a linked list of handlers, each of which is able to process requests. When a request is submitted to the chain, it is passed to the first handler in the list that is able to process it.

The facade carries out its responsibilities by forwarding messages to the objects it represents. A general rule of thumb is that identity and elements, which are the basic brand building blocks, rarely change because they help define the brand and design artifacts. Depending on the complexity of the design system, it is important to start by taking a comprehensive approach to the problem being solved. Through these collaborative efforts, a designer will be able to ensure that guidelines for the system are upheld or refined based on need.

Design systems like Material Design are a trendy topic, yet a systematic approach to design has been integral to magazine publishers for decades. While flipping through the pages of any major magazine, it is easy to see that each section is uniquely defined as a template with common layout, fonts, colors, etc. Learn about the evolution of design systems and how designers can adopt a holistic approach to systems thinking. Patterns are more like receipts – they point you to right direction but they don’t guarantee that they are the solution you are looking for. Same way you use receipts in cooking book – you know what you want, book gives just points you to right direction and it is up to you to get there.

The mediator pattern is used to reduce coupling between classes that communicate with each other. Instead of classes communicating directly, and thus requiring knowledge of their implementation, the classes send messages via a mediator object. When I see patterns in my programs, I consider it a sign of trouble. The shape of a program should reflect only the problem it needs to solve. Any other regularity in the code is a sign, to me at least, that I'm using abstractions that aren't powerful enough-- often that I'm generating by hand the expansions of some macro that I need to write. The Facade Pattern shows how to make a single object represent an entire subsystem.

It is common for new user flows to be defined in a product roadmap, especially when rolling out features. The need to break or create a new design pattern usually depends on the maturity of the system. When a design system is evolving, the patterns frequently change. As the system becomes established, there should be a change request process in place to help ensure continuity and quality.

Exposed brick works well with a bright white color surrounding it, highlighting its stony texture. It's an ideal way to add texture and charm without distracting from the traditional simplicity of white dećor. While it can be tempting to stick to only using white on structural areas, the color can be incorporated in other ways. White furniture like couches or even coffee tables can give a room a clean, fresh feel.

Here, designer Jessica Nelson uses light woods, creamy whites and gold accents to create warmth. One wall is as white as the door and seems to blend with it while the other is made of beige stone bricks and accented with a small wooden chair with a wooden crate beneath for coats or shoes. The uniformity and simple white brightness of this kitchen are almost clinical in its white monotony. This is slightly subdued by the modern ovens and the modern steel stools of the white kitchen island. This is also balanced by the outside views of the massive glass doors. The hardwood flooring of this white kitchen is a good counterbalance for the brightness of the ceiling, cabinets, and drawers.

Plants are especially useful, as they gently break the white in interiors by adding a welcome earthy softness. Bach Arquitectes' interior design for the Urgell Apartment in Barcelona features salvaged tiles, which add a decorative touch to this living room with its white walls and white sofas. This is a simple and plain white foyer that emphasizes the wooden hues of the main door and its single sidelight with the same wooden frame.

A white primary bedroom design idea will inevitably evoke clean and crisp when it comes to how your bedroom feels. Though this living room has white walls and a white ceiling, thanks to the variety of color from the furniture and decor, it doesn’t feel like a completely white room. The orange-yellow and purple area rug adds richness to the color scheme, and complements the blue-cushioned chairs in the center of the room. White living room ideas not only look clean and modern but also act as a blank canvas to showcase your personal design style. We love how a display of artworks and finds make a focal point of this original fireplace; the just off-white chimney breast wall and warm-toned upholstery make for an inviting space, too. An easy way to maximize light is opting for curtains in natural tones that don't overwhelm the space, and can be pulled right back beyond the window frame so that they don't dramatically block out light when drawn. Incorporating mirrors into a scheme is another option for making a space feel lighter and brighter. In an all-white scheme, it's good to have a clear focal point so your room isn't just a sea of white.

They must still go through the rule-making process with several state panels, including lawmakers, and opportunity for public comment. COLUMBUS, Ohio — Nearly two weeks after Gov. Mike DeWine vetoed a bill regarding gender-affirming care for minors in the state, the Ohio House of Representatives has voted to override his decision. The bill eliminates in-person voting the Monday before Election Day and redistributes those hours to another time, a measure backed by local election officials. It also gets rid of most special elections in August unless the county, municipality or school district is under a fiscal emergency. Ohioans can cast provisional ballots if they don't have all the necessary information to vote on Election Day.

OH Legislation 2021-2022 134th General Assembly

At least 21 states have implemented restrictions on access to gender-affirming care, many of which have faced legal challenges. A law banning gender-affirming care for minors in Arkansas was ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge and similar laws have been blocked in Georgia, Indiana, Idaho, Texas and Montana while the cases are tried. A judge in Franklin County put a short-term pause Tuesday on House Bill 68, a statewide ban on gender-affirming care for trans minors that would have taken effect in less than two weeks, according to court documents. The bill also would ban transgender girls from participating in sports. Research shows hormone therapy can improve the mental health of transgender adolescents and teenagers, a recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine found. DeWine vetoed the bill in December 2023, saying he believed the bill as written would harm transgender youth and impede on families' ability to make decisions after speaking with those who would be impacted by the legislation.

A Democratic attorney who sued the Ohio Redistricting Commission over its legislative maps said the state will face a lawsuit if the governor chooses to sign it. The bill requires voters who want to vote by mail to submit an application at least seven days before Election Day, instead of three. Those voters must return their completed ballots within four days of the election, instead of 10. Clark said doctors don't have the power to wholly self-regulate, under the Health Care Freedom Act or other laws.

Additionally, the departments must also collect data submitted by providers on gender dysphoria and subsequent treatment, and his plan calls for the agencies to inform lawmakers, policy makers and the public. The proposal would mandate a team for transgender individuals seeking gender-affirming care that would consist of, at a minimum, an endocrinologist, a bioethicist and a psychiatrist. "The decisions that parents are making are not easy decisions," DeWine said in the Dec. 29 press conference. One of the biggest provisions requires voters to present a photo ID when they cast ballots in-person. That could be an Ohio driver's license, state ID, U.S. passport, passport card, military ID or interim identification issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. We will fight vigorously to defend this properly enacted statute, which protects our children from irrevocable adult decisions,” he wrote.

Ohio lawmakers rushed a major overhaul of state voting laws through the waning days of their legislative session that would change how voters navigate elections. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of two families whose 12-year-old transgender daughters would lose access to gender-affirming health care. Filed by the ACLU in March, the original lawsuit seeks to block HB 68 from going into effect on schedule and at all. It is on behalf of two 12-year-old transgender Ohio girls and their families, one from Hamilton County and one from Franklin County, and argues they would lose “critical, medically necessary health care” under HB 68. “This bill strips rights away from parents and bans children’s access to evidence-based healthcare,” Antonio said in a statement after the bill passed the Senate. “Physicians need to be able to have comprehensive care discussions with patients and their families, but this bill puts them in an impossible position.

DeWine did not signal Thursday whether he plans to sign the bill, but said the final product improved some "substantive problems" in previous versions. The post Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost files emergency motion with Ohio Supreme Court on House Bill 68 appeared first on Ohio Capital Journal. Gender-affirming care is supported by every major medical organization in the United States.

The bill also mandates that K-12 and collegiate teams in Ohio be “single-sex” and enables athletes to bring forth civil lawsuits against any institution that violates that mandate. The bill restricts the use of puberty blockers, hormone therapy or surgeries for transgender youth. The bill does not restrict the use of this care on non-transgender youth, and specifically includes an exception for intersex youth with ambiguous or abnormal sex characteristics. HB 68, introduced by Republican Rep. Gary Click would block doctors from providing gender-affirming care to trans youth, including puberty blockers and hormone therapy. Gender-affirming care has been called safe and effective by more than 20 major national medical associations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association. The AMA has said this care can be medically necessary to improve the physical and mental health of transgender people.

Physicians have told ABC News that doctors, families and patients often have many long conversations together to consider age-appropriate individualized approaches to care. DeWine vetoed the bill, saying that he agreed with several concerns highlighted by the legislature. However, he said he believed the bill as written would harm transgender youth and impede on families' ability to make decisions after speaking with those who would be impacted by the legislation.

The ACLU of Ohio filed a lawsuit in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas on March 26 against the part of the law that prohibits gender-affirming care for transgender youth. It says HB 68 violates four sections of the Ohio Constitution — the single-subject rule, the Health Care provision, the Equal Protection Clause, and the Due Course of Law provision. Physicians who provide any gender-affirming medical care for trans youth in Ohio under this law would be "subject to discipline by the applicable professional licensing board" under this legislation. The bill would ban physicians from performing gender reassignment surgery on a minor, but many opponents have testified that no Ohio children’s hospital currently performs gender-affirming surgery on those under 18. An amendment was added to HB 68 Wednesday that added a grandfather clause that would allow doctors who already started treatment on patients to continue.

He took a moment to speak directly to transgender people during the Senate session. Gender-affirming surgery for minors is not common, with less than 3,700 performed in the United States on patients ages 12 to 18 from 2016 through 2019, according to a study published in August in JAMA Network Open. It’s unclear how many of those patients were 18 when they underwent those surgeries.

Children’s hospitals across Ohio, the Ohio Children’s Hospital Association, and the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians all opposed HB 68. The material on this site may not be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, cached or otherwise used, except with the prior written permission of Advance Local. The ACLU has also cited the recently-ratified Issue 1, which codified abortion rights in the state constitution, as something that extends to the potential protection of gender-affirming care. In a statement following the ruling, Levenson said she was “thrilled and relieved” by the win, but that the legal battle will go on. This bill will make it more challenging for trans and non-binary people, said Dara Adkison, a member of TransOhio.

A bill that would block doctors from providing gender-affirming care to trans youth and prevent trans athletes from participating in Ohio women’s sports is going to Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s desk. Research shows that hormone therapy can improve the mental health of transgender adolescents and teenagers, a recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine found. He proposed rules to regulate gender-affirming care instead that would be less likely to be challenged in court -- including bans on surgeries for minors. Voters could return absentee ballots to one drop box installed at the county board of elections office.
